Pre-marital counseling prepares seriously dating and engaged couples for marriage by addressing common challenges from a biblical perspective with a mentor couple that understands the value of marriage from a Biblical and personal view.

Our church offers pre-marital counseling using the Merge curriculum from Watermark Church (Dallas), It is an 8 session program covering the following topics:

  • A Biblical View of Marriage
  • Biblical Roles in Marriage
  • Communication & Conflict
  • Strengthening Your Relationship
  • Understanding Your Spouse
  • Expectations and Family/In-Laws
  • Finances
  • Sexual Intimacy (we usually wait on this one until right before you get married although we do have conversations before then too)

We believe the journey to marriage is an important one. We have decided the best format for this journey is one mentor couple meeting with one engaged couple.  We do not offer group classes. This allows the engaged couple and the mentor couple flexibility in scheduling the sessions.

The format we follow is each week (or two weeks, whichever works best), we share an audio file with you that you will need to listen to and answer the questions in the workbook. You can do it together as a couple or by yourself. There is also homework in the workbook that should be done separately. We recommend you listen to the audio, do the homework, and then spend some time talking about your answers to the homework before we get together. When we meet with you, we talk about any of the material that you might have questions about, where you might have had a difference of opinion, and share some of our experience. We usually meet for about 1-2 hours per session.

Completing the registration provides our coordinator with information about you and your wedding plans.  It does not commit either you or Declaration Church to the counseling. Kim Sutphen will be in touch after she has the opportunity to review your submission.

CONGRATULATIONS!
